The Irene & Leslie Dube Centre for Mental Health offers acute care, inpatient services to children and youth as well as adults.
Our team is made up of a variety of mental health professionals who assist patients and their families during the course of inpatient (overnight) care.
Our treatment plans include individual therapy, group therapy and pharmacotherapy (therapy using prescription medications).
Plans also include a variety of activities:
• School programming
• Self-reflection
• Physical and recreational activity
While we specialize in treating children and youth, we know parents and guardians need support too. We work closely with community mental health and addiction programs to support the whole family and also help transition a child or youth, when they are ready, to community mental health and addiction services.
Consultation psychiatric services are available within the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH). Within the new children’s emergency department, new resources are also available for child and youth mental health and addiction services. We are excited to have a dedicated psychiatric liaison nurse and social work services. These are readily available for children, youth and their families.
Our goal is to collaborate with existing services dedicated to the JPCH including the Child Life Program. This will enhance programs and services offered to children and youth who live with mental health and addiction illness.
