The NICU offers a high level of care for newborns requiring extra support with feeding and growing, and short-term respiratory support or illness.
As a parent it is important for you to get to know your baby. You are encouraged to visit your baby as often as possible.
Pediatric Care
A team of health-care professionals care for children on the inpatient pediatric unit located on level 3. This 14 bed unit includes high acuity beds for advanced care that does not require a full intensive care. The unit also has outpatient assessment and treatment areas.
Pediatric Outpatient Care
To access outpatient services on the Acute Care Pediatric Unit, your care provider must make a referral to one of our pediatricians. The Acute Care Pediatric Unit provides outpatient (non-overnight) services for medically complex children and their care providers. This program assists the family to receive care quickly and efficiently.
Supportive Services
We have dedicated Social Work Team and Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) Nurse Navigators. They are available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
These teams are committed to the care of the children and their families. The nurse navigator acts as a patient advocate for all Indigenous children and families coming to the hospital.
The Victoria Hospital has the Ronald McDonald Room located on the pediatric floor and the Ronald McDonald Nordman Family Room located in the NICU. The room located on the pediatric unit is staffed with a volunteer and is can be used by all families. The spaces have a kitchen and sitting area to help families feel at home during their stay. The purpose of the rooms are to create a welcoming environment for families to retreat, rest and heal while being just steps away from their seriously ill child.
Volunteer services provides support to patients during their hospital stay. The volunteers offer comfort, play and connection to the children.
