Pregnant patients can be referred by a health-care professional to the Maternal Outpatient Department (MOPD). The MOPD offers:
- Pre-assessment clinics (PAC)
- These clinics provide information to pregnant patients who have a planned cesarean section (C-section). The dates and times of these PAC appointments will be provided to you by your health-care provider’s office. If you need to change your appointment, talk to your health-care provider.
- Anesthesia consults
- Maternal patients requiring a C-section will typically see an anesthesiologist, a specialist who will look after pain control and sedation during the surgery. Anesthesia consults are booked together with your PAC appointment as needed.
- Diabetes in Pregnancy clinics
- These clinics provide education, self-management information and support to pregnant patients with pre-existing diabetes or pregnant patients who have recently developed gestational diabetes that require medication to manage your blood sugars.
