Pediatric Surgery & Recovery

The Jim Pattison’s Children’s Hospital has surgical operating and procedural rooms specialized for children.

Surgeries performed in our operating rooms include:

  • General surgery
  • Orthopedics (including scoliosis treatments and spinal corrections)
  • Neuro surgery
  • Plastic surgery (for example, cleft palate repairs)
  • Dental treatments
  • Ear/nose/throat surgeries
  • Urology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Oral maxillary and facial surgeries

The pediatric surgery department has three surgical rooms and a procedure room. All three surgical rooms have an attached area where children and families spend time together before the surgery.

Our pediatric anesthesiologists will provide a general anesthetic to provide comfort to the child during their procedure. Parents are invited to remain with their child while the anesthesia is started. This reduces the anxiety of children and allows parents to ask questions and participate. You will then be taken to the waiting area while your child has surgery.

Once the surgery is complete, your child will be taken to the recovery room to be cared for by specially trained nurses. Once your child is stable, parents will be brought into the recovery room. You will stay here until your child is ready for discharge.

Pediatric Surgery & Recovery is located on the ground floor of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
